Real Estate Associates Program (REAP)

The Real Estate Associates Program (REAP) is developed and administered by the Alberta Real Estate Association (AREA) on behalf of the Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA). Completion of the course and related examinations is one of the requirements to obtain a real estate associate licence from RECA.

This comprehensive course is offered through classroom and distance delivery. Classroom registration links are located at the bottom of this page. REAP is divided into three phases:

Phase 1: Introduction to a Career in Real Estate is the prerequisite course for the Real Estate Associates Program. Participants must pass the final exam of the course to be eligible to proceed to phase two.

Phase 2: Fundamentals of Real Estate - this phase contains common education modules for anyone trading in real estate. Participants must achieve at least 70 percent on the final exam before proceeding to the next phase.

Phase 3: Real Estate Areas of Practice - this phase introduces three areas of real estate practice: residential, commercial and rural real estate. Participants must pass the final examination at the end of each section.

Phase I*:
INTRODUCTION TO A CAREER IN REAL ESTATE & QUALIFYING EXAM
* There are no prerequisite for Phase I

1-class + exam F/T: 30 pages of required reading from the text prior to a 6-hr in-class session (9:00am - 4:00pm) followed by a 90-minute exam on the next day (9:00am- 10:30am) that can cover anything in the text.
OR
2-classes + exam P/T: 30 pages of required reading from the text prior to two 3-hr in-class sessions on Tuesday & Thursday evenings (6:30-9:30pm) followed by an exam on Saturday (9:00am - 10:30am) that can cover anything in the text.

Phase II*:
FUNDAMENTALS OF REAL ESTATE (Section 1-6) & QUALIFYING EXAM
* TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR REGISTRATION IN PHASE II, THE PREREQUISITE EDUCATION TRANSCRIPTS & FORMS MUST BE RECEIVED & APPROVED BY THE ALBERTA REAL ESTATE ASSOCIATION (AREA). Candidates must also complete Phase I with 90% attendance & pass the exam with a min. of 70% to qualify for Phase II. Click here for more information on prerequisites.

16-classes + exam F/T: 96-hrs of in-class session from Monday to Friday (9:00am - 4:00pm) which will include reviews, followed by a 180-minute exam within two - three days
OR
26-classes + exam P/T: 96-hrs of in-class sessions on Tuesday & Thursday evenings (6:30-9:30pm) as well as Saturdays (9:00am - 4:00pm) followed by an exam within a week

Phase III*:
REAL ESTATE AREAS OF PRACTICE (Section 7-9) & QUALIFYING EXAMS
* Candidates must also complete Phase II with 90% attendance & pass the exam with a min. of 70% to qualify for Phase III

19-classes + exam F/T: 114-hrs of in-class session from Monday to Friday (9:00am - 4:00pm) which will include reviews, followed by a 180-minute exam within two - three days after each section is completed for a total of three exams
OR
32-classes + exam P/T: 114-hrs of in-class sessions on Tuesday & Thursday evenings (6:30-9:30pm) as well as Saturdays (9:00am - 4:00pm) followed by a 180-minute exam.
