How to become a REALTOR®To become licensed as a real estate associate in Alberta, first time candidates must complete the Real Estate Associates Program (REAP).
What is REAP?This comprehensive course is offered online and in the classroom in four different phases consisting of:
Introduction to a career in real estate: free online through the Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA)** and becomes one of four requirements for REAP. After completing the Introduction to a career in real estate course, students must pass an exam at each phase in order to advance to the next phase.
Upon completion of the introduction RECA (Real Estate Council of Alberta)** must receive your eligibility to proceed to REAP Fundamentals of Real Estate.
REAP Fundamentals of Real Estate: online course covering the essentials needed for trading in real estate.
- REAP Phase 3: offered at CREB®*, participants must complete all three sections and pass an exam for each.

CREB® is ranked as one of the largest real estate boards in Canada. It is a professional body of over 5,300 licensed brokers and registered associates, representing 262 member offices. CREB® is a private association of REALTORS®, we are not a public body.
**RECA (Real Estate Council of Alberta)
Established in 1995, the Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA) is an independent, non-government agency, responsible for regulating real estate, mortgage broker, and real estate appraisal professionals under the Real Estate Act of Alberta
The Real Estate Council of Alberta's Education unit manages the pre and post licensing education standards, programs, policies and development and delivery of RECA’s Re-licensing Education Program for industry members.
