Fresh start: southwest community of Belmont offers new beginnings

Sitting just south of Silverado between 194th Avenue and 210th Avenue S.W., the new Calgary community of Belmont is touted as a quiet refuge on the edge of the city and a place for new beginnings.

"It's a bright, modern community with a broad appeal for those looking for affordable quality in south Calgary," said Steve LePan, development manager with Anthem United. "As the first new community in the area, it's focused on affordable quality for first-time buyers or those new to Canada."

Covering 280 acres, Belmont features six of Calgary's best builders and four home types: townhomes, street towns, single-family homes on a lane and single-family homes with a front-attached garage.

"It's a place where proximity to the amenities of south Calgary and an abundance of park and recreation areas mean your new home extends well beyond your front door," said LePan.

Those amenities, which are attractive for residents and a big boost to resale value, will be numerous. They include a City of Calgary recreation centre, an LRT station, a school with playfields for soccer and baseball, and four or five playgrounds located throughout the community.

The location is just as important as the amenities. Residents will enjoy views of the foothills and proximity to Sirocco Golf Club and Spruce Meadows. Easily accessible via 210th Avenue S.W. from Macleod Trail or Sheriff King Street from Highway 22X, Belmont will become even easier to reach thanks to the ongoing extension of the southwest ring road.

"The extension will mean residents can easily head downtown for work or west out of the city for those weekend getaways," said LePan.

Not surprisingly, interest in the new community is strong.

"We've already had a number of pre-sales," said LePan. "Some people are looking to move from their homes in Bridlewood or Shawnessy, where they have some equity, but want to make a change, or downsize without uprooting their families."

The grand opening of Belmont is scheduled for later this month on April 28.
