Haunted Calgary: Outbreak

Since 1987, the Campbell family in the Calgary community of Rocky Ridge has been transforming their home into a veritable cornucopia of Halloween scares while raising money for a good cause.

"It started just as a way to keep kids entertained on the street and then within the first couple years I was known at the school as a witch," said Myrna Campbell laughing. "Every year it grows bigger and bigger and more and more. More elaborate, more details."

Lifting Spirits

A 10-year-old Calgary girl has more independence in her home after four local companies banded together in support of the Easter Seals Give a Kid a Lift initiative.

Each year the initiative selects one recipient of a home elevator or lift. This year's recipient was Juliana Alexson who, at eight months old, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and is wheelchair bound.

Getting to Know Nosehill

Reportedly taking its name from the distinctive (at least if you use a little imagination) nose-like hillsides that surround the area, the Nose Hill Natural Environment Park – as it's officially known – is one of the largest municipal parks in North America. Encompassing 11 square kilometres of native grassland in northwest Calgary, the park was created in 1980 after citizens spoke out against a plan to turn the area into a residential development.
