City opens downtown off-leash park
New site opens at Cannaught Park
The City of Calgary has opened its first fenced inner-city off-leash area at Connaught Park.
"There are almost 650 dogs licensed in the Beltline, and during public engagement we identified a need for a safe and dedicated off-leash space in the area," says Doug Marter, development manager for Calgary Parks.
Connaught Park, located at 11th Street and 14 Avenue S.W., was selected for its central location and because it was originally designed as a multi-use park, said the City.

Calgary boasts almost 8,000 hectares of parkland – as well as Fish Creek Provincial Park and nearby Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park. Connecting the city and its greenspaces are nearly 800 kilometres of pathways.

Back to Bowness Park
Storied, flood-damaged park to re-open by end of year
A historical and natural jewel in the city of Calgary, Bowness Park is expected to be once again open to the public by the end of the year.
In the midst of a $12 million redevelopment project, the park was one of the areas hit hardest by June 2013 flooding. Debris lined the canal, a mainstay for winter skating, silt covered the entire park and boulders almost a metre high rolled into roadways and parking lots.
