Grant FAQs

CREB® REALTOR® Community Foundation grants are designed to help create new housing options, keep people housed and improve housing quality in local communities.

We encourage organizations to apply for one grant stream only.

Our intention is to diversify funding across the housing and shelter sector. As a result, it is highly unlikely that one organization would receive funding through more than one grant stream in the same granting year.

Legacy Grants: The Legacy Grant is awarded periodically as part of a 3-year funding commitment. Calgary Dream Centre was the recipient of the Legacy Grant for 2025-2027. Applications will reopen in 2028.

Community Grants: In 2026, $240,000 in grants will be awarded.

Transformation Grants: In 2026, $120,000 in grants will be awarded.

To be eligible for a grant from CREB® REALTOR® Community Foundation, your organization’s project must create new housing or shelter options, keep people housed, or improve housing quality.

  • Legacy Grants fund projects that help create new housing options for people who need it most. This could be a new build or the acquisition of a new property with capital costs for renovation and/or repair.
  • Community Grants fund projects that require essential upgrades, major renovations or transform existing spaces that will keep our most vulnerable communities housed or create expanded housing options.
  • Transformation Grants fund projects that require minor renovations or improvements of existing homes and shelters to improve housing quality.

No. Applications must be submitted through the Foundation's online application system. We are not able to accept separate letters or proposals of intent.

Project timelines are considered as part of the review process. There is no requirement that a project be at a specific stage of development to apply.

We recommend completing the application in one sitting.

Each application session generates a unique URL that can be bookmarked and accessed later. After completing Phase 1 of the application process, applicants can download the full list of application questions to prepare responses for Phase 2.

We require all non-profits to have registered status through the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) before we can consider funding. If this requirement is missing, the organization would be considered ineligible.

However, if you are able to secure your registered status before the deadline for our grant streams on May 30, 2025, you can submit a request through the online application.

Projects must align with the Foundation’s current funding priorities and giving criteria. Funding decisions focus on housing- and shelter-related initiatives that address significant community need and demonstrate measurable impact.

Notification timelines vary by grant stream and year.

  • Legacy Grant: The Legacy Grant is awarded periodically as part of a three-year funding commitment and is not available during every granting cycle. Applications will reopen in 2028.
  • Community Grants: Successful applicants will be notified by Sept. 21, 2026.
  • Transformation Grants: Successful applicants will be notified by Nov. 16, 2026.

All applicants will be notified by email once the evaluation process is complete, including those who are not approved for funding.
