CREB^® welcomes Marco De Iaco as first public director

Calgary, AB – Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024 – The Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB^®) is pleased to announce the appointment of Marco De Iaco, a distinguished executive and community leader, to its Board of Directors. This landmark appointment signifies a significant milestone as Marco assumes the role of the first-ever public director to join the board.

The Board Development and Leadership Standing Committee (BDLSC) played a vital role in the selection process, carefully considering multiple candidates. Twomey further commented, "The BDLSC was very impressed with the calibre of the finalists and is excited to announce Marco's appointment. The Committee recognizes his outstanding achievements and believes he will contribute significantly to the growth and success of CREB^®."
 
Marco brings a wealth of experience and expertise from his illustrious career spanning various industries. A graduate of the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary and the Executive Program at Queen’s Smith School of Business, Marco has held roles in driving transformative initiatives and fostering community engagement throughout his professional journey.
 
He served as the former Executive Director of the Calgary Downtown Association, as well as the Vice President of Sport, Culture, and Major Events at Tourism Calgary, where he spearheaded groundbreaking initiatives to elevate Calgary's profile on the global stage.
 
Marco's tenure at Tourism Calgary saw him lead numerous collaborative efforts to attract major events to the city, including the CN Canadian Women’s Open, the SHAW Charity Classic, and the World Water-Ski Championship, among others. His visionary leadership was vital in uniting Calgary and Edmonton for the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship, setting records in ticket sales, attendance, and economic activity.
 
Notably, Marco chaired the JUNO Awards and JUNO Week Celebrations in 2016, earning accolades for staging one of the most memorable editions of the event in its 45-year history. His ability to conceptualize and execute innovative strategies has consistently driven value, revenue, and reputational impacts for organizations and brands under his stewardship.
 
Throughout his career, Marco has demonstrated a strong commitment to community engagement and advocacy. He chaired the execution of the inaugural Glow Winter Festival on Stephen Avenue in 2020, attracting record attendance and supporting local businesses. Additionally, his involvement in initiatives like the Calgary Civic Sport Policy and the Downtown Outreach Addictions Partnership reflects his dedication to fostering positive change in Calgary.
 
As a member of the CREB^® Board of Directors, Marco is poised to offer fresh perspectives and invaluable insights that will further enhance our organization's mission of serving its members and advancing the real estate industry in Calgary. His proven track record of strategic leadership, governance, stakeholder engagement, and operational excellence will undoubtedly contribute to the continued success and growth of CREB^®.
