$240,000 awarded through 2026 Community Grants

Calgary, Alberta, Sept. 22, 2026 – CREB^® REALTOR^®Community Foundation is proud to announce the recipients of its 2026 Community Grants: Discovery House Family Violence Prevention Society, Hull Services, Inn from the Cold, The Mustard Seed and Society for Autism Support and Services.

This year, $240,000 in Community Grants will support major repairs and renovations to existing housing and shelter spaces, helping keep vulnerable Calgarians housed in their communities. Since the Foundation was created in 1987, it has given more than $10.4 million to Calgary and area non-profit organizations.

“The members of the Calgary Real Estate Board are proud to support these five organizations as they improve housing and shelter spaces across Calgary,” said Christian Twomey, Chair of the CREB^® REALTOR^® Community Foundation. “For nearly 40 years, CREB^® REALTORS^® have invested in the communities they call home. Together, our members proudly share and celebrate that we’ve provided more than $10 million in grants to support vulnerable people in these communities.”

Discovery House Family Violence Prevention Society

Discovery House is a non-profit dedicated to supporting families affected by domestic violence. Through its Second Stage Shelter, Community Housing Program and wraparound supports, the organization provides housing and services for women and children.

Grant funds will support the renovation of one apartment within Discovery House’s secure second-stage shelter. The renovations will improve the apartment’s functionality, safety and comfort for families staying there.

“Discovery House helps families experiencing violence turn crisis into courage and find their strength. Many families cannot do this alone. With Calgary’s growing population and increased costs, they often cannot do it easily. Without CREB^®'s support, it would not be possible to build a community of care for our clients when they need it the most. You are helping families recover, reimagine and rebuild their lives,” said Leslie Hill, Executive Director of Discovery House.

Hull Services

Hull Services supports children, youth and families who need additional support to thrive. The organization provides a continuum of care, including intensive 24/7 therapeutic care and community-based programs for children, youth and families.

Grant funds will support the replacement of the deteriorating roof at River Lodge, a residential home for youth ages 12 to 17. The project will replace the existing cedar shake roof with a more durable asphalt shingle system.

“For the young people who call River Lodge home, stability is essential to healing and growth. Thanks to the 2026 Community Grant from the CREB^® REALTOR^® Community Foundation, we can replace a deteriorating roof that has reached the end of its lifespan and protect a home that provides 24/7 care for youth with complex developmental, mental health and behavioural needs. This funding will help ensure the safe, secure and consistent environment these young people need to heal, learn, and thrive,” said Dan Hornsberger, Director of Infrastructure, Hull Services.

Inn from the Cold Society

Inn from the Cold has supported families experiencing housing instability for nearly 30 years. The organization provides prevention and diversion services, family shelter and supportive housing to help families find stability during times of crisis.

Grant funds will support bathroom renovations in 10 affordable housing units at Journey House, including new flooring, subflooring, vanities and countertops. The upgrades will improve the safety and functionality of these homes for families experiencing housing vulnerability.

“CREB^®’s generous support will help modernize and enhance Journey House, benefitting the families who call it home today and many more in the years ahead. Funding will support bathroom renovations and other essential improvements that strengthen the quality, comfort and long-term sustainability of this affordable housing community. These upgrades will help reduce daily stress, support health and well-being, and reinforce a sense of dignity and stability,” said Heather Morley, CEO of Inn from the Cold.

The Mustard Seed

The Mustard Seed is a non-profit organization that has been caring for individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty since 1984. It provides emergency shelter, supportive housing, meal programs and wraparound support services to help people move toward greater stability.

Grant funds will replace the aging carpeting in two apartments at The Mustard Seed’s 102 Transitional Housing facility with durable luxury vinyl plank flooring. The two apartments house seven women who have experienced homelessness or housing instability. The improvements will create safer, more dignified living spaces while reducing maintenance needs and extending the life of the facility.

“This generous support will fund flooring upgrades on the women’s floor at The Mustard Seed’s 102 Transitional Housing program, helping create a safer, more accessible, and dignified place for women as they transition out of homelessness and take steps toward long-term housing stability. A safe and welcoming home is an important foundation for rebuilding a life. Thanks to the CREB^® REALTOR^® Community Foundation, residents will have a more comfortable space where they can regain independence and build confidence,” said James Gardiner, CEO of The Mustard Seed.

Society for Autism Support and Services

The Society for Autism Support and Services (SASS) provides specialized supports for children and youth with complex needs, including an out-of-home living program that provides residential care in a home-like setting.

Grant funds will support the renovation of the remaining three bathrooms in SASS’s facility. The upgrades will improve the functionality and durability of the bathrooms.

“This grant could not have come at a better time. The grant will allow us to renovate the bathrooms in our Out-of-Home Living program building. The children and youth we serve require a specialized environment to ensure their safety and promote independence. This includes durable and safety-conscious plumbing fixtures and flooring. A huge thanks to the CREB^® REALTOR^® Community Foundation for helping us to enhance lives across the spectrum,” said Kimberley Ward, Executive Director at Society for Autism Support and Services.
