What is a Buyers Agreement?

If you have ever sold a house in Alberta you have signed an agreement with a REALTOR® explaining what your working relationship will be. If you have bought a home in Alberta you may have been asked to sign a similar document.

"Effective July 1, 2014, Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA) will require industry members who establish a client relationship when trading in residential real estate, property management or when dealing in mortgages to enter into a written service agreement with that client" says Natalie Scollard, communications coordinator with RECA.

Town of Chestermere Set for Major Expansion

Chestermere may soon be expanding their town to include 2,400 acres of residential and business development thanks to a project known as Waterbridge, which could attract more than 46,000 new residents.

"The Town of Chestermere annexed the Waterbridge land in 2009. They annexed the land because it allowed them to control growth adjacent to them, rather than if Calgary annexed it, they would have had no control over how these lands would develop," said Pam MacInnis, associate with Brown & Associates Planning Group.

Canada Post Says Good-Bye to Delivery

It's the end of an era. Within the next five years Canada Post is planning on phasing out home delivery, which means an end to the friendly neighbourhood mailman, making door-todoor delivery of mail to urban residents a thing of the past.

Moving away from home delivery, Canada Post will be eliminating 6,000 to 8,000 positions in the next five years, but they are expecting that 15,000 workers will retire or leave the company in that time frame.

Next Four Years Could See Five Per Cent Tax Hikes

Mayor Naheed Nenshi and councillors will be setting tax rates and service level increases for the next four years in summer and fall 2014. The city's projections show that the fiveper cent tax increases will be needed in 2015 and 2016 to keep up with their costs.
