Calgarians gave their city good marks overall in Calgary Foundation's latest Vital Signs report, however housing and transportation remain their top concerns.

Issued yearly by The Calgary Foundation, the report measures the vitality of our communities, identifies significant trends, and assigns grades in a range of areas critical to quality of life.

Calgary Office Market "Dynamic"

Calgary's office market is still one of the best performers in the country, however a new report says the city will need a strong performance to absorb all the new supply set to come online.

In a report from CBRE, Calgary and Toronto were singled out as the best office markets in the country. Due to a heightened level of activity, the report did identify the possibility of an overabundance of supply.

Amazing Acreages

Fresh air and wide-open spaces are the calling cards of acreage living. While the daily lives of those living in metropolitan regions are often filled with nosey neighbours and traffic gridlock, those living in more rural areas tend to lead a more relaxed lifestyle.

Although more than 80 per cent of Canada's 35,158,304 residents call urban centres like Calgary home, a 2009 survey showed 43 per cent of rural Canadians (those living in towns of 5,000 people or less) rated their quality of life as "excellent".

How to: Save Energy

According to a survey from Statistics Canada, Canadian households consumed 1.4 million terajoules of energy in their homes in 2011, up four per cent from 2007. While the average amount of energy consumed per household edged down from 106 gigajoules (GJ) in 2007 to 105 GJ in 2011, the survey showed only 82 per cent of respondents reported using at least one energy saving practice in their homes. CREB®Now is offering up a few suggestions to bring those energy use numbers down, and perhaps increase the number of households doing their part to cut down on energy usage.
