Sales Growth Boosted By Rise in New Listings

Fifth consecutive month of double-digit trend

Calgary, Dec. 2, 2013 –

City residential sales totaled 1,730 units in November, a 19 per cent increase in sales volume over the previous year.

$520M Transit Expansion Approved

City Council approved adjustments to the 2014 business plans, operating from a capital budgets on Nov. 27, of this approval was what to do with the $52 million in 2014 tax room.

One of the proposals for the tax room money came from Coun. Shane Keating recommending the money be put towards a transit expansion.

'Peak Toilet' Crisis in Calgary's Northwest

Calgary's northwest is in a development freeze until a second sewer trunk can be built through Bowness to accommodate the increase in sewer usage.

Currently, the City of Calgary took extra measures allowing 183 homes, the northwest recreation centre, the Tuscany fire station and a middle school in Royal Oak to finish construction.

Okotoks to Tap Into Calgary Water Supply

The town of Okotoks has voted to pursue the development of a regional water system via Calgary to meet the future growth needs.

With the town's water usage approaching the 700 million gallons per year it is permitted to draw from the nearby Sheep River, additional water capacity is required to meet the town's long-term growth plan.

A New Partnership will help with Attainable Housing for Calgarians

Attainable Homes Calgary Corporation (AHCC) and Mattamy Homes have partnered together to deliver affordable townhomes for ownership at Cityscape.

Mattamy Homes is Canada's largest new home builder, with operations across Canada and the United States. AHCC is a non-profit organization and wholly owned subsidiary of The City of Calgary that works to deliver well-appointed, entry-level homes for Calgarians who have been caught in the city's growing affordability gap.
