With strong economic growth expected to continue into 2013, some say Alberta's recent real estate market "renaissance" is just getting started.

"The Alberta housing market enjoyed an unusual mix of factors in the third quarter: firm and steady resale activity, balanced demand-supply conditions (if marginally tight), moderate home price increases, and attractive and improving affordability," said an RBC Housing Trends and Affordability report.

Pop The Question: Gian-Carlo Carra

Raised in both Calgary and New York City, Gian-Carlo Carra was elected to serve his first term as Alderman for Ward 9 in October 2010. Having obtained a Masters in Environmental Design/Urban Design at the University of Calgary and serving on the City's Standing Policy Committee on Land Use Planning & Transportation, Carra brings a passion for building walkable, safe and fiscally responsible communities to City Hall. Victoria Park Revisited

Once the I's are dotted and the T's are crossed, the Calgary community of Victoria Park will have a new green space for its residents.

"It's a for sure thing, we have funding in place," said Michelle Reid with City of Calgary Parks. "We are in the process of trying to get our development permit and we plan to start construction next summer."

Theft Proof Your Garage

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) is reminding residents to be mindful of home and vehicle security following a number of offences in the city's northwest. Since the beginning of October, offender(s) have committed approximately 25 offences targeting vehicles, garages and homes in the area. In the garage break and enters, offenders gained access through unlocked doors or they have stolen garage door openers from vehicles to gain access. In some cases, they have then gained entry to the home via the connecting door within the garage. Calgarians can help ensure their homes and garages are safe by taking the following steps:

Urbanization in Cities to Boost Business Opportunities

While a slowdown in national residential construction will play a role in moderating growth for Canadian businesses in 2013, a pickup in office/retail construction, combined with increased population density in major cities provide excellent opportunities for entrepreneurs, according to a special report from Sherry Cooper, chief economist for BMO Financial Group.

"The boom in non-residential construction represents a clear example of where opportunities lie for Canadian business," said Cooper.
