A report detailing Calgary's bustling downtown office market is suggesting a potential over-abundance of space could result in increased vacancy.

With as much as 7.5 million sq. ft. of space set to come to the downtown core over the next four to five years, a report from Cresa calls the potential impact of the current level of development "significant", adding to the possibility of increased vacancy in the area.

Government to Compensate Floodway Homes

The Redford government is giving homeowners living in floodways in Southern Alberta the option to relocate their families.

Affected homeowners are eligible for compensation valued at 100 per cent of their last municipal property tax assessment to help them relocate.

Affordability Undeterred

Despite recent flooding, Calgary's housing market continues to chug along according to a new report from RBC.

Thanks to a strong economy, solid labour market, rising population and continuing attractive affordability, RBC's Housing trends and Affordability report showed monthly resale activity increased for six straight months, while affordability levels in Calgary continue to be among the better in Canada.

Before the City introduced a blue cart curbside program in 2009, 40,000 tonnes of recyclables were taken to local depots, by 2010 that number grew almost twofold to 70,000 tonnes.
