East Village Announcement

The East village just announced the revitalization of the Simmons Building to include retailers Phil and Sebastian Coffee Roasters, Sidewalk Citizen Bakery, CHARCUT by chefs Connie DeSousa and John Jackson.

As a part of the East Village, CMLC (Calgary Municipal Land Corporation) has included the previously mentioned retailers to compliment the over $1.1 billion of planned investment to the neighbourhood.

`Calgary's downtown skyline will change once again with the expected 2017 completion of the 58-storey Telus Sky.

A Resilient Real Estate Sector

In its spring and summer newsletter, Avison Young said Calgary's commercial real estate sector remains resilient despite "growing concerns" about Alberta's future economy.

With the energy sector remaining cautious about weakening oil prices and the uncertainty surrounding the Keystone XL and Northern pipelines, as well as Alberta recording a sixth consecutive deficit this year, the newsletter says economic growth remains "decidedly positive".

New Path to Biking Downtown

Construction has begun on downtown Calgary's first cycle track.

The two-way bike lane travels along the east of Seventh Street SW between the Bow River pathway and Eighth Avenue. The track has a onemetre wide concrete barrier to height of a sidewalk curb to help improve travel on the street.

In a bustling Calgary real estate market, condos have become the talk of the town.

Compared to February 2012, combined condo apartment and condo townhouse sales in Calgary this February increased by 11 per cent. The boost in condo sales, in part, can be attributed to a tightening market on homes $500,000 and less available in the city.
