Five things about the Green Line

With Ward 12 Coun. Shane Keating pushing for provincial funding, Calgary's proposed Green Line is beginning to take small steps forward. What's your home's Transit Score?

New feature to join Walk Score on REALTOR.ca

Transit Score will now be made available on select listings on REALTOR.ca, the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) announced recently.

The national real estate agency said the addition is in response to a "demographic and socioeconomic shift toward sustainable transportation." It also noted that in a 2013 Nanos survey, 59 per cent of respondents indicated that the Transit Score would be valuable when assessing listings on REALTOR.ca.

The addition of the Transit Score coincides with the change in the implementation of the already popular Walk Score. Both scores will now be positioned in the new "Walk Score + Directions" tab, rather than at the bottom of the listing details page.

Sibling rivalry

West Village redevelopment taking back seat to twin to the east

With its eastern counterpart the darling of Calgary's development scene, the West Village couldn't be blamed for feeling a bit like a forgotten sibling.

Bounded to the north by the Bow River, to the east by 11th Street SW, to the south by the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks and to the west by Crowchild Trail, the area was once envisioned to be a "transit-oriented, sustainable urban community," yet sits idle as "an auto-oriented brownfield site."

Broadcast Hill

Named for the iconic 459 foot CFCN tower that has stood atop Southwest Calgary since 1961, Broadcast Hill – otherwise know as Coach Hill Patterson Heights – was first annexed by the city in the late 1970s. Known for the historic brick home that served as residence to wrestling's Hart family, the community also takes its name from the home's prior occupant, Judge Henry Stuart Patterson.
