Picture perfect: Great Calgary spots for viewing fall foliage
We have officially entered autumn, and in Calgary, it is short but scenic. So, if you’re in the mood for treating your senses with the colours of the season, make sure you check out the following spots – while you can!
Rotary Park
Right above the Centre Street bridge, Rotary Park offers breathtaking views of the city. You can sit on one of the benches surrounded by trees with yellow leaves and take it all in.
But if you want to make it a family outing, know that the park features an accessible playground and an off-leash area, so all members of the family can join in the fall fun.
Prince's Island Park
Named after Peter Anthony Prince, the founder of the Eau Claire Lumber Mill after which the Eau Claire neighbourhood is named, this park offers the perfect combination of city and nature.
Located in Downtown Calgary, it is the perfect spot for a walking date or fall photoshoot. The park also features picnic tables, a playground, public bathrooms, picturesque bridges, and you can even stop by the River Café, one of Canada’s best restaurants.
Bowness Park
Whether you’re looking for a scenic run or planning for a picnic day, Bowness Park is the right choice. As one of Calgary’s most popular parks, Bowness offers two kilometres of pathway and has numerous picnic sites, shelters, fire pits and BBQ stands if you want to gather with the whole family.
Fish Creek Provincial Park
With 19 km, Fish Creek Provincial Park is the second-largest urban park in Canada after Rouge National Urban Park in the Greater Toronto Area. It’s a fan favourite throughout the year, but the mesmerizing colours of the fall make a great difference when visiting.
You can enter through Marshall Springs for relaxing trails and hilltop views, Bannister Road for a laid-back route, and Shannon Terrace, one of the closest entrances to the creek.
Nose Hill Park
If fitness is your goal this season, this park covers over 11 square kilometres and has numerous hiking trails and dedicated off-leash areas for your furry friends to enjoy. Come for the fall foliage but stay for the mesmerizing views on all sides of the Rocky Mountains, Bow River Valley and plains.
At Nose Hill, you might even see some wildlife like deers and coyotes. Just remember that coyotes are not not a threat to people and should be treated with respect. Never approach or feed one.
