The new downtown?
Quarry Park drawing big companies to its mixed-use community
While Calgary's downtown is home to some of the biggest companies in the world, Quarry Park in the southeast has become the new kid on the commercial block, and many of those same companies are deciding to call it home instead.
A gravel pit for 50 years, Quarry Park is emerging as one of Calgary's most up and coming "it" communities. In 2005 it began to form as a vision of Remington Development Corp. The mixed-use community includes homes, retail and commercial offerings.

Fore! Play
Spectacular summer, PGA event, cast spotlight on Calgary's golf communities
After last summer brought with it plenty of heartbreak and hardship, it goes without saying Calgarians have earned the enduring warmth seen this season. And what better way to celebrate the soaring temperatures than by sending a ball soaring down the fairway?
Boasting a bevy of neighbourhoods designed around the benefits of living along the links, golf communities in and around the city cater to duffers and non-duffers alike by offering a beautiful backdrop for both recreation and relaxation.

Parking perception
Driving only one option for Calgarians looking to access the downtown core
For Calgarian Eric Westrum, cycling to work downtown is a no-brainer.
While he now lives in close proximity to work, Westrum used to live in the northwest, meaning a 30-minute two-wheeled commute.
"I like my bike because I can get to where I need to go quickly and effortlessly, especially downtown, and not have to worry about parking," he said.

Grids locked
Calgary kicks curvilinear network to the curb
There's good news on the horizon for anyone who's ever experienced frustration navigating in Calgary's newer "curvilinear" communities.
Changes being made at City Hall will mean future communities will move back to the grid network seen in older communities, rather than the curvilinear pattern seen in many newer communities, which placed an emphasis on decreased traffic and the creation of cul-de-sacs in the community.

An organic state of mind
Local and chemical free, the best food money can buy
It was a gathering of the chefs recently when Galimax, an Alberta fresh food wholesaler, invited chefs, gardeners and other interested foodies on a southern Alberta field trip to see food — real food — being raised for city folk in Calgary.
Two buses of food enthusiasts spent 11 hours visiting and investigating different farmers and local food. We discovered old eggs have a sloppy egg-white and a weak yolk. We learned pigs will cross the road from barn to field even though the road is not fenced, yet not escape to freedom.
