Having grown up on the outskirts of town, Tom worked various jobs to make ends meet throughout his life. After years of hard labour , his health and mobility made it difficult for him to keep working and he was forced into early retirement. This led him to move around from place to place, struggling to keep up with rent and always coping with an uncertain living situation.

CREB^® REALTOR^® Community Foundation has awarded a $1 million Legacy Grant to support the Calgary Dream Centre with the development of safe housing for vulnerable women and mothers with children.

Known as the largest shelter in North America, the Calgary Drop-In Centre supports the local community by welcoming adults experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

CREB^® REALTOR^® Community Foundation Legacy Grant recipient Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) has officially re-opened their doors following an ambitious expansion that tripled the number of family suites from 27 to 91. The addition of 64 suites—which makes Calgary the seventh largest of 380 Ronald McDonald houses around the world—was made possible in part by the $1 million Legacy Grant. The CREB^® REALTOR^® Community Foundation was one of the first major donors to this expansion project.

Thanks to the CREB^® REALTORS^® who volunteered at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) on March 27, the house is one step closer to re-opening their doors to families in need of their support.

CREB^® REALTOR^® Community Foundation is set to open grant applications for their Legacy, Community and Transformation Grants on March 11, 2025. This year, the Foundation is awarding $90,000 more than 2024, for a total of $590,000.
