Historical Home Spotlight: Sanders Residence

Year of Construction: 1901
Community: East Village
Architectural style: Western false front

At almost 120 years old, the Sanders Residence holds the distinction of being the longest-standing continually occupied home in the East Village. The home is an excellent example of Western false front architecture, a style that was common among commercial buildings in the Old West of the United States and Canada, but quite rare among residential buildings.

The McClary Residence was built in the Holmpatrick subdivision of the Municipal District of Springbank No. 22 in 1929. Twenty-five years later, the subdivision was annexed by the City and was renamed Glenbrook.

My Neighbourhood: Inglewood and Ramsay

As Calgary's oldest community, Inglewood is a neighbourhood that has been through a lot.

Since it pre-1900 founding as Brewery Flats, Inglewood – along with its neighbour Ramsay – has weathered both the First World War and Second World War, the Great Depression, and countless booms and busts. The communities have bounced back time and time again, emerging as two of the most desirable places to call home in the city.

Then and CREB®Now: evolution of a publication

CREB®Now has been a part of Calgary's news community since 1983, back when it was called Calgary Real Estate News or, simply, CREN. Since then, our humble newspaper has gone through a few different iterations and several redesigns.

To celebrate our final print issue, let's take a walk down memory lane:

My Neighbourhood: Mount Pleasant

The lands that became northwest Calgary's Mount Pleasant community were annexed by the City in 1910, making it one of Calgary's older neighbourhoods. When development began in the area in 1912, Calgary's population numbered fewer than 50,000 people.

Garrison Woods, Garrison Green and Currie embody Calgary's rich military history

With every passing year, the events of the First and Second World Wars become ever more distant parts of our country's history. Remembrance requires work, and any excuse to think about or discuss these conflicts and the sacrifices of Canadian veterans helps keep their memories alive.

In this context, three southwest Calgary neighbourhoods that wear their military history on their sleeve are especially significant.
