Housing Heroes: Ronald McDonald House Charities^® Alberta

Since their first houses were constructed in Alberta in 1985, Ronald McDonald House Charities^® Alberta has welcomed tens of thousands of families seeking vital medical treatment for their seriously ill or injured children.

Almost 70 per cent of Canadian families live outside of a centre with a children’s hospital – meaning they will have to travel to access specialized medical care.

By providing a home-away-from-home for these families, Alberta’s Ronald McDonald Houses saves them hundreds to thousands of dollars, while providing the ability to stay together during one of life’s most difficult times.

To continue serving this need and to improve the experience for families that utilize the space every year, the Calgary Ronald McDonald House requires renovations to one of its common areas.

Late last year, CREB^® REALTOR^® Community Foundation announced Ronald McDonald House Charities^® Alberta as one of its 2021 Community Grant recipients, providing $25,000 to support renovations to the Calgary Ronald McDonald House.

“We are very appreciative of these funds from CREB^®, which will go towards a renovation of the craft room/play space/TV lounge area in our Calgary Ronald McDonald House,” said Tamara Smith, associate director of development for Ronald McDonald House Charities^® Alberta.

“The renovation of this area will help improve accessibility, create a more inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome, and will include the addition of a much-needed sensory area. Thank you to everyone at CREB^® for this generous gift, which will make an impact on families for years to come.”
