American businessman Keith Warner may have just become Calgary's – and, specifically, Inglewood's – biggest cheerleader, as his multi-million-dollar video game development company will open a studio in the community in May.

For Nicole, the day begins with a short stroll from her riverside, two-bedroom condo (she has a downtown view and awakens to the honking sounds of geese) to La Boulangerie Bakery Cafe on Fourth Street to grab a latte.

She calls herself an ardent inner-city junkie. "I don't really do the suburbs well, and Mission's vibrant but a little bit out of the core, so you get a different vibe. It just feels like home."

Calgary's century homes are still turning heads

If you're lucky enough to live to 100, you'll probably slow down a bit. But many of Calgary's 100-year-old homes are still going strong and drawing plenty of attention.

Proposed Inglewood condo tower will stand tall, but hurdles remain

A proposed 20-storey, mixed-use condo development for Inglewood would be the first of its kind in the neighbourhood, but has also raised concerns among some of the community's residents.

B&A Planning Group has been hired to consult on the project on behalf of a group of investors, and launched a community engagement process last year with brochures, open houses and town hall meetings.

The project plan includes 180 condo units, plus 14 townhouses and small-scale commercial spaces at its base.

New Green Line LRT stations are poised to bring transit-oriented development to several communities

Proposed transit-oriented development (TOD) around first-stage Green Line stations is expected to turn city thoroughfares that currently lack curb appeal into new live, work, shop and play destination areas.

Later this year, station area plans or area redevelopment plans will go to city council for six of the 14 stations in the initial stage of the new LRT line – 16 Ave N., Inglewood/Ramsay, 26 Ave S.E., Lynnwood/Millican, Ogden and South Hill.

The Green Line's first phase will extend from 16th Avenue N. to 126 Avenue S.E., with construction slated to begin in 2020.

When Juliet Burgess, 29, bought her 110-year-old home in Inglewood for the above-list price of $350,000, she says she became the first among her circle of millennial friends to become a homeowner.

"I personally don't know anyone in my age group who owns property," said Burgess, who works in the not-for-profit sector. "We're super lucky to be able to afford to buy.

"I've been saving my whole life, since I was 14. Even with that, my partner's savings and our parents giving us a little bit, we could only put down the minimum for a down payment."
