Do you know these Alberta locations featured in 'The Last of Us'?

HBO’s highly anticipated video game adaptation, ‘The Last of Us’, premiered on Jan. 15, and not only was this show a hit, but it also hit close to home for Calgarians.

Shot in Calgary, the series is one of the highest-ever acclaimed TV series debuts, with a 99 per cent critic approval rating and 96 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Travel Alberta is inviting fans of the series and visitors to come join the apocalypse with their location map on the Travel Alberta website, where you can walk in the shoes of Pedro Pascal (Joel) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie).

The series began shooting in the summer of 2021. During that time, it filmed at several Calgary locations, including Mount Royal University and SAIT. Scenes were also shot in Okotoks, High River, Fort Macleod, and in Edmonton, where the Alberta Legislature was covered in vines. Viewers who aren’t even aware of the game have been tuning in to see if they can recognize any of the areas utilized.

This is another great step in Calgary becoming a destination for creativity, innovation, and livability. With Calgary's recent rank as the eighth-best city to live and work as a MovieMaker in North America, the community is primed for a flurry of projects to come.

Although there are only nine episodes slated for this season, don’t worry as HBO announced last Friday that a second season of the series has been approved.

Canadian viewers can subscribe to the HBO package through Crave to watch The Last of Us or check out some of the landmarks for yourself but watch out for zombies!
