Open house: New southwest communities

An information session is being held tonight for Providence, an area in the city's southwest where new communities are being planned.

Providence is located at the future intersection of the Southwest Ring Road and 146 Ave. S.W. The area encompasses 789-hectares of undeveloped agriculture land with plans for residential, retail and other employment uses. City planners are currently in the midst of working on an area structure plan (ASP) to guide development int he area. The ASP will set the high-level land uses and transportation networks, identify servicing requirements and locate areas of environmental significance.

"Over the next several months, we're going to be planning the future of the new communities in Providence," said Jill Sonego, City planner. "We're interested to hear from the public so that we can incorporate their feedback into our planning process."
