PTQ: Ivan Brooker

Cochrane is a town on the move, with new amenities such as The Quarry development and construction of a new aquatic and curling centre. Providing diverse options for recreation is important to the town and its residents, said Mayor Ivan Brooker, who recently sat down with CREB®Now to talk about everything from new projects to why the kitchen is his favourite room in the house.

CN: How do homeowners stand to benefit from recent infrastructure announcements such as the new school in Sunset Ridge and new pool?

IB: Amenities such as our new pool and curling centre greatly enhance our resident's quality of life. Providing diverse options for recreation is very important to the Town of Cochrane. CN: Has Cochrane's current vision for open spaces been a deliberate focus for town planners and council when looking to the future?

IB: Cochrane is blessed with beautiful scenery, being situated along the Bow River with spectacular views of the mountains and valley. We most certainly work to protect and enhance or public spaces. Having a terrific path and park system is very important to our residents.

CN: What plans, if any, does Cochrane have to address transportation concerns?

IB: We are currently working with the province to address the needs for an upgrade at the intersection of
1A Highway and Highway 22. As well, we are starting to look at the possibility of regional transit in conjunction with a local transit service in 2017.

CN: How will new communities/developments on the outskirts of town change the way Cochrane looks and feels?

IB: Cochrane is most certainly growing, but we work hard to connect all our community's new and old with path systems and good road connectivity. We have a very strong downtown core, as opposed to commercial developments on our outskirts like you see in many communities.

CN: What's your favourite room in the house and why?

IB: My kitchen. We have a very large island, and when we have big family gatherings everyone is able to be involved.
