On top of the world: Cochrane's Sunset Ridge boasts stunning scenery and abundant amenities

Distinctive architecture sets the tone for Melcor Development's master-planned community of Sunset Ridge in the picturesque town of Cochrane. Inspired by arts-and-crafts and craftsman design elements, homes feature deep and rich natural colour palettes, varied roof pitches and decorative elements like gables, brackets, blocks and false trusses. Old-world charm abounds, with large porches and usable, covered landings.

"We wanted to set Sunset Ridge apart by creating a consistent neighbourhood identity within the public realm, with a very high level of quality in both the housing and amenities," said Catharina Mendonca, Melcor's marketing manager.

Thoughtful landscaping, welcoming community entrance features and plentiful amenities – including schools, community centres, a connected pathway system and outdoor spaces – create a vibrant and attractive aesthetic that complements the community's natural beauty. It sits on a ridge overlooking Cochrane, with expansive views of the town and the Rocky Mountains beyond.

"The community's standout feature has to be its location, from both an aesthetic and lifestyle perspective," said Mendonca. "There are breathtaking sunrises and sunsets 365 days a year, and it is perfectly located just 15 minutes from Calgary and 45 minutes from the mountains."

A six-acre fresh water pond flanked by walking paths, a playground, gazebos and picnic tables offers a community hub known as Central Park – a lovely spot for walking the dog or playing with the children. Throughout the community, close to six kilometres of pathways link playgrounds and park areas, while a newly constructed outdoor exercise circuit is creating a buzz. Two schools – St. Timothy's and the newly opened K-8 RancheView School – allow local children the old-fashioned luxury of walking to school.

Meanwhile, the Trading Post is commercial hub that's home to a gas station, yoga studio, pub, restaurant, market and wine store.

And, with downtown Cochrane a quick eight-minute drive away, residents of Sunset Ridge need never venture into the big city.

Mendonca notes that a variety of buyers now call Sunset Ridge home, from young professionals to longtime Cochrane and northwest-Calgary residents looking to downsize into duplex homes. "And of course, with the two schools, we are seeing a lot of interest from young families," she said.

Home designs include fee-simple townhomes, semi-detached homes, and move-up designs with double, front garages, as well as semi-estate homes. Buyers can choose from several builders, including Excel Homes, Homes by Avi and Jayman Built.

"The diversity of housing in Sunset Ridge allows homeowners to buy into a community where they can grow and stay for many years to come," said Mendonca.

At final build out, the community will be home to 2,700 families.
