Avenue Magazine Dubs Varsity Best Neighbourhood in Calgary

Calgary's Avenue Magazine recently released its third compilation of Calgary's Best Neighbourhoods with the northwest community of Varsity taking the number one spot.

The magazine surveys its readers, asking them to share what is most important in a neighbourhood that makes it's residents want to remain living there. "We care more about playgrounds and recreation facilities than we do large yards and low density," said the article, written by Todd Andre, Meredith Bailey and Jaelyn Molyneux. "While we don't necessarily need to live near family or friends, we do want access to pubs, restaurants and coffee shops where we can meet them. And we love good value, which means keeping a keen eye on neighbourhoods where property values are on the rise."

Rounding out the top five besides Varsity were Arbour Lake, Bowness, Haysboro and Fairview. Varsity was singled out for "sundry sprawling parks and grassy schoolyards make a saunter down to the local pizza parlour as pleasant as a garden promenade," said the article. "It's all part of the easygoing energy of a neighbourhood that doesn't lack much."

Arbour Lake received kudos for the lake itself as well as the nearby marketplace and residents of the community of Bowness are in love with the low taxes, big yards and large number of schools available within walking distance of their front door.

Do you live in the best neighbourhood in Calgary according to you? What do you like about your neighbourhood?
