HGTV star Bryan Baeumler shares home-reno wisdom at Calgary Renovation Show

As the calendar turns over, people are revving up to refine and refresh their lives and lodgings, and what better way to do just that than a home makeover?

"There's a comfort behind staying in your home for as long as possible and I feel like that is the route many homeowners are taking, especially within today's tight real estate market," said home renovation heartthrob, Gemini-award winning TV host and HGTV star Bryan Baeumler.

Baeumler's hitting the Main Stage at the Calgary Renovation Show, which runs from Jan. 11-13 at the BMO Centre.

His hit shows Disaster DIY, Canada's Handyman Challenge, Leave it to Bryan, House of Bryan and Bryan Inc. have delighted audiences since 2007, and his new series, Island of Bryan, will be airing on HGTV Canada this spring.
"My favourite part about these live shows is connecting with the audience, and there's no better way than being able to speak to their own personal situations and experiences." - Bryan Baeumler, renovation expert

At the Calgary Renovation Show, Baeumler will be sharing a variety of home renovation tips, while imparting some practical advice and wisdom, including dos and don'ts to get your personal transformation underway. The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session.

"My favourite part about these live shows is connecting with the audience, and there's no better way than being able to speak to their own personal situations and experiences," said Baeumler.

When it comes to renovations, he notes that creating an open-concept design is a trend that has longevity, while kitchen renovations will up the ante on the resale value of any home.

"Even just doing some minor updates (to the kitchen) can make a huge impact, and while it may not come cheap, it will increase your return on investment and benefit you in the end," he said.

However, he says renovations aren't always a walk in the park, and that many require comprehensive planning to ensure a good result.

"A renovation is no breeze," he said. "While some homeowners can easily visualize the finished product, there are many steps to getting there."

Baeumler suggests considering budget, timelines and building codes before diving into any renovation project.

"Many people don't realize that sometimes their small renovation can actually need permits," he said.

"Make sure you are familiar with local building codes and plan accordingly."

The Calgary Renovation Show equips visitors with loads of renovation and home-improvement advice. It also offers up plenty of juicy home-improvement eye candy, displayed by over 200 participating suppliers and retailers.

Catch Bryan Baeumler on the Main Stage on Friday, Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. or Saturday, Jan. 12 at 1 p.m.
